Herniated and Bulging Discs

Herniated and bulging discs are two common spinal injuries that cause pain and impair function.

When the fibrous ring surrounding the disc nucleus tears, the gel-like material inside the nucleus can protrude and press on a nerve or the spine. This may cause severe pain and sometimes leads to numbness and a loss of sensation.

In the case of bulging discs, the discs themselves protrude and press on the spine or nerve root. Continued pressure results in neurological damage.

In the case of herniated discs, the gel-like material reaches the spine, where the defense cells attack it, leading to inflammation as well.

Herniated or bulging discs affect muscles and movement, but damaged nerves can also cause problems in the internal organs they supply.

Chiropractic treatment focused on the damaged disc includes alleviating the pressure on the nerves, retreating the disc and strengthening the back. Quick and professional intervention can prevent chronic pain and long-term functional impairment.
